According to local media, two hospitals and a central operation system in New York were targeted by cybersecurity attacks over the weekend.

The casino operating system managed the slot venues in the state, which caused some of them to close, including Jake’s 58 Casino.

It took several days for Jake’s 58 to reopen following the incident, with regular updates posted to social media pages for customers.

It’s believed that this attack affected the Video Lottery Terminals (VLTs), which are operated by Everi Holdings on behalf of the New York Gaming Commission.

Brad Maione, a New York Gaming Commission spokesman, said: “On Tuesday,Online Casino Games October 17 2023, Everi, the licensed operator of New York’s video lottery gaming central system, experienced a cybersecurity event that remains under investigation.

“The Commission has no indication that personal identifiable information was compromised. The Commission continues to monitor the situation.”

The two hospitals in question, HealthAlliance Hospital and Margaretville Hospital in Hudson Valley had to divert patients to other facilities until services were restored.

This cybersecurity attack comes relatively soon after the major hacks against both MGM Resorts and Caesars in Las Vegas.

While Caesars paid a ransom amount to prevent an attack, MGM Resorts refused to.

In these incidents, it’s believed that the group responsible for the hack managed to seize six terabytes worth of data and stopped operations at MGM for over ten days.
